Time and time again Amazon.com proves to have some of the best selection of items and hard to beat pricing. However, Amazon does not always take care to update their "in-stock information or get rid of outdated stuff. Sometimes items take weeks to arrive instead of the "ships in 24 hours" shown when adding the item to cart.

I literally spent less than five minutes from the time I entered their site until I had completed my order. The searching feature is great and checkout is a breeze. I bit the bullet several months ago and bought the Amazon Prime membership that gives me unlimited, free two-day shipping ($79/yr). I order from them a lot and LOVE getting my products so fast and free, rather than having to bulk up my order with unnecessary products just to get free super saver shipping (then waiting 10 days to get it here). If you order a lot or impatient like me, its money well spent.

Amazon.com is the first place I go when considering a purchase for several reasons. First of all, their customer reviews are great for learning more about products and making a final decision whether or not to purchase. I always find their customer reviews a huge help. Secondly, Amazon.com has a great selection of products with very competitive prices. Finally, each and every time I have ordered from Amazon, shipping has been speedy - including their Free Super Saver Shipping option which is available with orders of $25 plus on select merchandise.

Amazon.com is the first place I'd look for products that I need. And most of the time has the best prices around. Now the only problem with shopping with Amazon.com is what takes place after the order has been placed. If you're ordering 1 item and it's in stock, fine, no problems. But, if it's more than 1 item and 1 item is not in stock, you should contemplate whether or not you want the most desired item shipped faster or not. I placed an order with a high priced electronics item in stock and the free gift being out of stock. I chose, "few shipments as possible" instead of "ship when available" being that it was $15 more expensive and that I thought the item in stock would be held for me. Well, to my dismay, after 3 weeks no shipment. I call them and they (shipping dept) say that the gift is available and since I complained they'll ship it faster but my then in-stock, high priced, item isn't in stock now and that I'd have to wait for the next shipment and they're not sure when it'll come in. In my book this kind of service is very unsatisfactory for such a reputable company. So, to sum it up: Amazon.com nice place to shop for your few, in-stock items. But, be wary of shipping options when purchasing numerous, time sensitive items.

Even though there are so many other online stores, they just don't compare to Amazon. Their prices are often cheaper, and they always have special promotions going on. And you can't go wrong with free shipping! (Although their free shipping is really slow now. It used to come in 2, 3 days, now it takes 5-10 days, but hey it's free) The customer service is decent, too. I wrote an email to them a couple times, but they replied fairly quick and fixed the problems I had. All in all, it is still a great store to shop.

Amazon is a great site to find whatever you need. We've only shopped for books so far, and we have been delighted to find the out of print books we've been looking for. Amazon is one of those sites that we always use during the holidays, and they've yet to let us down. The only reason we didn't give them all 10s in this survey, is because there is always room for improvement! Thanks again.

I've purchased from Amazon for years and all of my merchandise has been delivered quickly and in good condition. For items like books, video games, CD's and DVD's it's hard to beat Amazon. They also list the prices for 'used' versions of what you're looking for, which I've purchased at times and have been very happy with.

I generally find I can get new products even cheaper than on eBay. With super saver shipping, deals are even better. I recently bought a telephone, got free shipping and it was here in 2 days. Books are usually cheaper than Barnes & Noble too!

You can't beat Amazon.com for selection and pricing. Sometimes I have found lower prices on books at other sites but I appreciate the email follow-up which Amazon always does when you place an order. With the addition of groceries and gourmet foods to their already large menu of choices, you truly have "one stop shopping" without leaving their website.

An excellent selection of a wide variety of items, from household electrics, to groceries, to baby gear, to toys at great prices. Customer reviews makes it easy to research and compare before buying. Shipping rates vary greatly; the Super Saver Free Shipping, when applicable, is nice when you don't need an item quickly. Shipping times for the free Super Saver shipping can take 10 days or more.

Amazon has some great merchandise from a wide array of products. Prices are usually competitive with physical stores, and selection is a lot broader than expected. Usually items arrive promptly, but if there is an issue, an automated email system informs you and lets you make choices about whether to keep that order in place.
The one real downfall is customer service. It is difficult to return items, and if you need to you MUST do it pretty much immediately to fall within return time constraints. This is doubly important if working through Amazon with one of its third-party sellers.

I think it depends on what you are looking for whether the price is better than other places. For books I found that I can get them many times cheaper other places, but often with every thing considered Amazon comes out ahead.
For there reconditioned Kitchen Aid mixers, often the price can't be beat. I have bought 2, one for $125 and the other for $105, after their coupon for kitchen things over $125.

I like buying from Amazon. It’s easy to find hard to find mdse here and the prices are usually good. I especially like when they have free shipping on their products. The ONLY drawback to buying from Amazon is the return. It’s more costly to send an item back thru the mail than returning it to a local store.

I really think Amazon.com does so much so well that they are the pre-eminent retailer on the internet. In a sense they are much more than just a retailer as their huge number of critically reviewed products make it a resource with few if any equals online - or elsewhere.
Additionally, Amazon is a good site as far as promotions are concerned, and it's often possible to find super deals. One caveat - if you find a great deal on Amazon - buy it. They are known for changing prices in the middle of the day.
Over the years, Amazon's focus has gone from books and music, to computer accessories, and now to house wares and the start of groceries, however it's still possible to get the DVDs or music you are looking for from their giant selection.
In fact, the other day I needed to purchase an obscure textbook on Sight Singing for my daughter. I called all the local bookstores large and small with no luck - and then I thought of Amazon. Bingo...it was in stock, and with their Amazon Prime shipping package we had it in 2 days.
I guess that's the point with Amazon...they have just about everything.
